Coolidge’s “Scientific” Approach to Taxation!
Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President, cut the top income tax rate from 73% to 25% during his 6 years in office. This lower tax rate stimulated economic investment and growth such that tax revenues actually increased as the rate decreased. This allowed Coolidge to cut spending each year he was in office and ultimately reduce the debt by one-third. The first part of the proposed Coolidge Amendment would cap the federal income tax rate at 25%.
